Brighton is a small town located in southwestern Tennessee. It is positioned in Tipton County and was home to almost 3,000 people in 2016 according to the United States Census Bureau. The town is located about 30 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee and is part of the Memphis Metropolitan Area.
Brighton was founded in 1873 along the pathway of the Memphis & Paducah Railroad. The land upon which Brighton was established belonged to A. W. Smith, Sr. who donated a 5-acre plot for the purpose of establishing a train depot. Brighton developed quickly and was home to several stores and businesses by the late 1870s. In 1913, Brighton was incorporated as a town.
Modern-day Brighton, Tennessee is home to several attractions and amenities. Schools, community churches, local businesses, and quaint neighborhoods occupy the streets of the town. Brighton is proud of the small-town lifestyle it provides to its residents and as the centerpiece of Tipton County, Brighton strives to continually improve. Residents of the town are provided with various outdoor recreational opportunities and access to the Brighton Community Center. Also, due to the location of Brighton along Highway 51, residents are able to easily access downtown Memphis, Tennessee, one of the largest cities in the state.
